Abu Dhabi increases reliance on locally made building materials in housing projects to 80%

Abu Dhabi, 9 May / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Center for Projects and Infrastructure and the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority announced, during the “Make in the UAE 2026” exhibition, an increased reliance on locally produced building materials in housing projects in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, amounting to 80% of the total materials used in these projects, within the framework of supporting the national industrial sector and enhancing the sustainability of local supply chains.

This announcement will support manufacturers and suppliers in the UAE, strengthen local supply chains, contribute to the growth of the industrial sector and diversify the economy, in addition to providing sustainable and cost-efficient housing projects through competitive local production.

This cooperation between the two sides comes within a strategy to develop and implement initiatives that support the long-term development priorities of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It also contributes to enhancing coordination between government agencies, increasing the contribution of the local industrial sector to major projects, and supporting the provision of high-quality housing that meets the needs of citizens and communities in various parts of the emirate.

On this occasion, His Excellency Engineer Maysarah Mahmoud Eid, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Center for Projects and Infrastructure, said: Our cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority represents an important step towards enhancing the role of local industry within the project development system in Abu Dhabi, and by working to supply 80% of building materials locally, we empower manufacturers in the UAE, enhance the flexibility of supply chains, and ensure the continued implementation of infrastructure projects according to the highest quality standards.

He stressed the commitment of the Abu Dhabi Center for Projects and Infrastructure to adopt a more integrated, efficient and flexible approach in implementing capital projects, noting that this cooperation supports the role of the Center in supervising, following up and monitoring projects in various parts of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

His Excellency Hamad Hareb Al Muhairi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority, said: Our cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Center reflects a joint commitment to move towards a more sustainable, flexible and future-ready housing system. Expanding the scope of local supply within the supply chains in housing projects is a strategic enabler to raise the efficiency of these chains, reduce risks, and reduce dependence on external sources, ensuring the continuity of implementation and development of housing projects with efficiency, confidence and long-term stability.

The signing of a memorandum of understanding in this regard comes as an extension of the existing cooperation between the Abu Dhabi Center for Projects and Infrastructure and the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority in implementing major residential communities, including the residential neighborhoods recently announced for citizens.

Under the memorandum, the two sides will work together to increase the use of building materials manufactured in the UAE, support local manufacturers and suppliers, simplify procurement procedures, and enable the implementation of housing projects with greater efficiency and sustainability, in accordance with approved standards.

The memorandum of understanding reinforces Abu Dhabi’s commitment to increasing the contribution of national industries to strategic initiatives and projects, and consolidating the competitiveness of the local manufacturing sector, in line with the UAE’s trends towards diversifying the economy, and enhancing the role of the industrial sector in supporting the process of sustainable development.
