The UAE restores the “Umayyad Mosque” in Damascus to preserve the Arab and Islamic heritage

This came on the occasion of the UAE’s announcement of the restoration of the Umayyad Mosque, during the visit of the Minister of State, Noura bint Muhammad Al Kaabi, to the Syrian capital, Damascus, where she said that Syria occupies a unique place in the heart of Arab and Islamic civilization, and the Umayyad Mosque is one of the most prominent historical monuments and eternal cultural symbols. The UAE’s announcement of the restoration of this mosque with the generous support of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates,” reflects the status of our common heritage and one culture, and the UAE’s steadfast stance. With the brotherly Syrian people in all circumstances and times, and sister Syria today is writing a new chapter in its contemporary history.
She stressed the UAE’s keenness to care for history and heritage, which is evident in the launch of cultural initiatives aimed at preserving the Arab and Islamic heritage on the one hand, and rehabilitating the cultural heritage in the Arab region on the other hand, within the framework of the UAE’s pioneering global role and its distinguished record in the field of cultural diplomacy and humanitarian work.
She explained that the initiative to restore the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus will include the structural and architectural rehabilitation of the mosque, and the revitalization of the historical area surrounding it on a larger scale, in a manner that is consistent with Syrian privacy and the economic, cultural and social fabric that characterizes the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic.
