A new outbreak of the Ebola virus kills 65 people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed the outbreak of a new wave of Ebola virus in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with 65 deaths recorded out of 246 suspected cases.
The centers explained, in a statement, that most of the deaths and suspected cases were recorded in the Mongowalo and Rumbara regions, in addition to recording four deaths among laboratory-confirmed cases, and monitoring suspected cases in Bunia, the capital of the region.
She expressed her concern about the possibility of the disease spreading further, in light of the population density and movement associated with mining activities.
The Ebola virus is a highly contagious disease that is transmitted through bodily fluids, such as blood and vomit, and causes serious illness that may lead to death.
In the same context, Uganda announced yesterday, Friday, that it had recorded a case of infection linked to the outbreak of the virus, after the death of a 59-year-old Congolese man in a Kampala hospital after he was infected with the rare Bundibugyo strain of Ebola.
The Ugandan authorities confirmed that no local transmission of the infection has been recorded so far, while intensifying border control, isolating those in contact, and activating emergency response teams.
