Lebanese President: I will do “the impossible” to stop the war

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Monday that he will do “the impossible” to stop the war in his country, as Israel continues its strikes on Lebanon despite the declared ceasefire with Hezbollah and direct discussions with Israel.
Aoun stressed, according to a presidential statement, “that the framework set by Lebanon for negotiations with Israel is its withdrawal from the territories it occupies, a ceasefire, the deployment of the army on the border, the return of the displaced to their villages, and economic and financial aid to Lebanon,” adding, “My duty, based on my position and responsibility, is to do the impossible and at the least cost in order to stop the war on Lebanon and its people.”
On Monday, a new extension of the ceasefire declared on April 17 came into force for an additional 45 days.
