Global energy security is a strategic priority in light of the rapid geopolitical transformations

Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al-Dahhak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment and Chair of the Board of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), at its thirty-first session, which began its work today, confirmed that global energy security has become an urgent strategic priority in light of the accelerating geopolitical transformations and their direct repercussions on the stability of global energy markets and emerging and developing economies.
Al-Dahhak said that the developments that the region witnessed during the recent period, including the impacts on vital waterways, clearly revealed the extent of the organic interrelation between energy security, economic stability and food security, stressing that these issues cannot be dealt with separately, but rather within an interconnected system whose components are directly affected by each other.
Al-Dahhak added that the meetings of the current session mainly focus on increasing the flexibility of the agency’s work and its various programs and projects, in a way that enhances its ability to serve member states in the renewable energy sector, and supports increasing the contribution of clean energy to consolidating energy security at the global level.
Al-Dahhak pointed out that the UAE’s early and proactive investment in the renewable energy file over the past years, in addition to its implementation of qualitative projects inside and outside the country in cooperation with many member states and international partners, embodies the UAE’s long-term vision and leadership in the clean energy sector, and reflects the direct impact of these efforts in supporting the stability of energy markets and promoting the transition towards a more sustainable future.
Al-Dahhak stressed that the UAE is looking forward, through the meetings of the 31st session, to enhancing the agency’s contribution to achieving the goals of member states, and working to develop specific strategies and projects that will double the contribution of renewable energy to the global energy security system, stressing that the current stage requires a greater focus on this vital axis in light of the accelerating global challenges and changes.
Al-Dahhak added that the outcomes of the upcoming meetings would directly contribute to enhancing the impact of the agency’s work on the global renewable energy sector, and support international efforts aimed at building an energy system that is more flexible, sustainable, and capable of confronting crises.
