US President Donald Trump revealed, during a meeting with the staff of his administration, a remarkable strategic shift in Washington’s approach to the Iranian file, considering that the course of current events represents in reality a “change of the regime” ruling in Tehran. Trump set strict conditions for any prospective framework agreement, threatening to resort to decisive military force if Iran does not respond to American demands.

Trump made clear in his statements that changing the Iranian regime was not the primary goal of his administration at the beginning, but the facts have changed. He justified this shift by saying: “We are now dealing with a different group of people,” stressing that the current course of events has placed Washington before the reality of regime change in Tehran as a fait accompli.

Regarding the ongoing discussions, the US President stressed in a decisive tone that he would not accept any “imperfect agreement.” He stressed that the proposed framework agreement requires the immediate opening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz to everyone to ensure freedom of navigation. He explained that the waterway would be subject to direct American supervision, while ensuring that it would not fall under the control of any single party.

On the economic front, Trump took an uncompromising stance that closed the door to any early financial gains for Tehran, declaring in categorical terms: “We will not return any money to the Iranians until they improve their behavior.”

In a remarkable escalation that reflects American impatience, Trump issued a final and direct warning to the Iranian leadership, warning that “if Iran does not give us what we want, the Secretary of War will work to finish the mission.”

On the other hand, Trump touched on the international complications accompanying the dismantling of the Iranian nuclear program, expressing his clear concern about some of the proposals put forward to deal with sensitive nuclear materials, as he stressed that he is “uncomfortable” with the idea of ​​allowing Russia or China to obtain Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
