Recent data issued by Forex.se for the year 2025 showed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is among the Arab countries that rely least on cash in daily transactions, as the share of cash transactions is only about 20% of the total daily payments, which reflects the expansion of the use of electronic payment methods and the shift towards the digital economy.
According to the data, Bahrain ranked second to last in the Arab world in using cash, equal to the United Arab Emirates at 20%. The data confirmed that Lebanon topped the Arab countries in terms of reliance on cash with 90% of daily transactions.
In a related context, the numbers recorded by Bahrain reflect the success of efforts aimed at strengthening the infrastructure for electronic payments and expanding the use of banking applications, digital wallets, and modern payment devices, in a way that supports the Kingdom’s move towards the digital economy, and increases the efficiency and speed of completing financial transactions.
The results highlight Bahrain’s position as one of the leading Arab countries in financial digital transformation, in light of the continuous expansion of electronic banking services and the increasing reliance of individuals and institutions on non-cash payment methods in various daily transactions.
