DUBAI, 4th June, 2018 (WAM) – His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, stressed that the country’s wise leadership attaches great importance to environmental sustainability, based on a well-established approach laid down by the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God rest his soul,” who made protecting the environment and preserving natural resources an integral part of the country’s comprehensive and sustainable development process.

He said that thanks to this forward-looking vision, the UAE has strengthened its position as a global model for climate action and sustainable development, through pioneering policies and innovative initiatives that balance economic growth and environmental preservation.

His Excellency pointed out that DEWA is inspired by the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him”, to establish sustainability as a main focus in all its strategies, projects and initiatives, and to continue supporting Dubai’s efforts to accelerate the pace of transformation towards a green economy and achieve carbon neutrality.

He added that within the framework of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050 for the Emirate of Dubai, which aims to provide 100% of the energy production capacity from clean sources by the year 2050, the Authority continues to work on implementing pioneering projects in renewable and clean energy, and the percentage of the Authority’s clean energy production capacity has risen to more than 21.5% of the total energy production capacity.

He said that World Environment Day constitutes an important occasion to renew commitment to protecting the environment, enhancing awareness of the importance of responsible use of natural resources, and highlighting efforts and initiatives that support the transition towards a green economy and low-carbon development, which contributes to enhancing the quality of life and ensuring a more sustainable future for us and our future generations.
