The South Korean won falls to its lowest level since 2009

SEOUL, June 5 / WAM / The South Korean won fell today, Friday, to its lowest levels against the US dollar since 2009, affected by tensions in the Middle East and the continued selling of local stocks by foreign investors.
The Korean news agency Yonhap reported that the exchange rate of the Korean won reached 1,547.1 won to the dollar during morning trading, recording its weakest level since March 2009.
Meanwhile, foreign investors continued to sell Korean stocks for the twentieth consecutive session, with net sales of about 1.4 trillion won.
The South Korean Stock Exchange also opened with a sharp decline, as the KOSPI index fell by 4.55% to 8,246.1 points, amid market concerns about geopolitical developments and global uncertainty.
