The US trade deficit fell to $55.9 billion in April

WASHINGTON, June 10, 2017 (WAM) – The trade deficit in goods and services in the United States declined to $55.9 billion during the month of April, a decrease of $0.7 billion from the previous March, when the deficit reached $56.6 billion.
The US Bureau of Economic Analysis of the US Department of Commerce said in a statement issued on Tuesday that exports in April amounted to $327.1 billion, an increase of $8.3 billion over March exports, while imports in April amounted to $383.0 billion, an increase of $7.6 billion over March imports.
The office explained that the decrease in the goods and services deficit during April reflects a decrease in the goods deficit by $2.4 billion to $83.7 billion and a decrease in the services surplus by $1.7 billion to $27.8 billion.
According to these figures, the deficit in goods and services decreased from the beginning of this year until the date of the report by $213.5 billion, or 49.1 percent, over the same period in 2025, while exports increased by $128.2 billion, or 11.3 percent on an annual basis, while imports decreased by $85.3 billion, or 5.5 percent on an annual basis.
The data revealed that average exports rose by $9.1 billion to $319.2 billion in April, while average imports rose by $9.7 billion to $375.0 billion in April.
On an annual basis, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported that the average deficit of goods and services decreased by $47.67 billion from the three months ending in April 2025, and average exports increased by $34.4 billion from April 2025, while average imports decreased by $13.3 billion from April 2025.
