The UAE has a solid path in building bridges of dialogue between peoples and civilizations
Abu Dhabi, June 10 / WAM / The UAE celebrates the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations, which falls on June 10 of each year, continuing its pioneering role in supporting efforts to bring people together and promoting the values of peace and tolerance, for the benefit of humanity’s present and future.
In a world of multiple divisions and conflicts of interests, the UAE has chosen to be a voice for dialogue, a bridge through which cultures cross towards convergence and understanding, and a space where peoples meet on universal human values, affirming its commitment to building a global vision that enhances human dignity and serves his aspirations for progress and prosperity.
The UAE is home to about 200 nationalities belonging to multiple ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, in a scene that reflects its success in building a cohesive society based on the values of mutual respect, the rule of law, freedom of belief, and equal opportunities.
This reality is the result of a strategic vision adopted by the state over decades, which made tolerance and coexistence a deeply rooted institutional approach embodied in legislation, policies, and community and educational programs.
Every year, the UAE witnesses a group of international events that have become a global platform for dialogue and rapprochement between peoples of different religions, races and civilizations, which is consistent with its historical legacy of religious tolerance and embracing diversity, and its strategic direction in establishing peace and spreading the values of love and goodness throughout the world.
On June 5, the UAE hosted the third edition of the International Conference for Dialogue of Civilizations and Tolerance, with the participation of more than 100 speakers from various countries of the world, and the attendance of more than 4,500 people from more than 120 countries.
The UAE is one of the first countries to establish a Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, to lead efforts aimed at establishing a culture of openness and understanding among the various components of society. The country has also launched a series of qualitative initiatives and events, including the National Festival of Tolerance and the “Abrahamic Family House,” which embodies a unique model of rapprochement between followers of the three monotheistic religions in one space that promotes dialogue and mutual respect.
In February 2019, the capital, Abu Dhabi, represented a prominent historical milestone in the process of promoting human brotherhood, as it hosted the signing ceremony of the “Document on Human Fraternity” between His Eminence the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and His Holiness Pope Francis, the former Pope of the Catholic Church. This global event represented a comprehensive humanitarian message calling for establishing a culture of dialogue, rejecting violence and extremism, and promoting the values of compassion, peace and coexistence among peoples.
The document received wide praise from the United Nations and various international parties, and became an important reference for efforts aimed at strengthening interreligious and intercultural dialogue in the face of growing global challenges.
At the international level, the UAE adopts dialogue and mutual understanding as a fundamental pillar of its foreign policy, based on the firm conviction that achieving sustainable security and stability is not limited to traditional tools of power, but is also based on building bridges of civilizational, cultural and religious communication between nations.
The state has translated this approach through its active presence in international organizations and forums concerned with dialogue and rapprochement between peoples, including the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and UNESCO, as well as its continued support for international initiatives aimed at enhancing human understanding.
The UAE has contributed to sponsoring many humanitarian and cultural mediation efforts between countries and peoples belonging to diverse environments and backgrounds, which has strengthened its position on the international scene as a reliable partner in supporting peace and stability, and a link between different civilizations and cultures.
