Sharjah Museums launches a private museum licensing service

Sharjah, June 10 / WAM / The Sharjah Museums Authority announced the launch of the private museum licensing service in the Emirate of Sharjah, opening the door for applications to owners of rare and precious collections, collectors, and those interested in art and heritage, through its website, to register or establish their own museums and obtain the necessary licenses.

The service includes private museums owned by individuals or non-governmental entities, as part of the Authority’s efforts to regulate the private museum sector according to professional and institutional standards that contribute to enhancing the quality of the cultural experience provided to visitors.

The authority confirmed that the service comes in line with the provisions of Law No. (7) of 2020 regarding the organization of the Sharjah Museums Authority, and within its vision aimed at empowering community members to contribute to the preservation of human heritage and the preservation of cultural memory by documenting private collections and making them available within an organized environment that enriches the cultural scene in the emirate.

She explained that the Authority’s website provides a unified portal for registering and licensing private museums, in line with the regulatory regulations and standards approved in the Emirate of Sharjah, and enhances the role of these museums in preserving heritage and providing diverse cultural content for generations.

She pointed out that the electronic service, which it provides in cooperation with the Department of Economic Development in Sharjah, provides an integrated system for registering and accrediting private museums, which includes entering the museum’s data, determining its location and working days, reviewing the terms and conditions, and completing the application procedures electronically.

She added that the licensing process is based on a set of standards that include adherence to the museum concept, fulfilling legal and operational requirements, highlighting the museum’s institutional identity, ensuring the authenticity of the collections and documenting their ownership, in addition to providing an appropriate environment for display and applying safety standards and ease of access for visitors.

The Authority confirmed that the service is characterized by ease of procedures and flexibility, which supports cultural investment and encourages individual and institutional initiatives in this field.

It called on private museum owners and those interested in establishing new museums to benefit from the service, review the conditions and standards approved on its website, and take the initiative to complete the registration procedures.

She explained that the initiative represents a supportive step to preserve cultural heritage, enhance the role of private museums as a partner in preserving cultural heritage, support cultural tourism, and consolidate Sharjah’s position as a leading cultural center at the regional and international levels.
