Edge Group launches "Edge Europe"
ABU DHABI, 11 JUNE / WAM / EDGE Group, a specialist in advanced technology and defense based in Abu Dhabi, announced the launch of EDGE Europe, a fully European trading company with its headquarters in Paris.
The new company, registered in France, offers a different vision for building defense capabilities, based on technology-based manufacturing, accelerating the pace of development, and building an open system driven by partnerships, allowing the development of sovereign capabilities at a faster pace than what is provided by traditional industrial models.
The establishment of the EDGE Europe operational base in France is considered the first step in a long-term commitment to the entire European continent.
The company was launched in two main locations, the first of which is a strategic headquarters in the prestigious Chaillot district in central Paris, which will lead government communication, partnerships and investments at the region level, in addition to an engineering and manufacturing center in Bordeaux that will lead the design, integration and rapid development of advanced systems.
Bordeaux is located at the heart of France’s aviation and defense industrial base, and has a specialized supply chain that includes propulsion systems, composites and avionics, in addition to being home to a number of leading universities and research institutions, giving EDGE direct access to specialized engineering competencies.
His Excellency Faisal Abdulaziz Al Bannai, Advisor to the President of the State for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the EDGE Group, said that Europe is going through a pivotal moment in its defense path, and EDGE came to be part of the future of this path, as we come to invest in talent, work side by side with the European industrial sector, and build sustainable capabilities on European soil.
He added that the defense capabilities that will shape the features of the next decade will be built by those who have the courage to redefine work methods and move with the speed and ambition required by the requirements of this stage.
He stated that in this context, Edge Europe combines the speed of a new generation of defense companies with the depth of an established industrial group, while we work hand in hand with our partners to build highly efficient capabilities, adding that this model is what the European defense scene needs in the next stage, and we are determined to advance it.
His Excellency added that over the decades, the UAE and France have established a strong and long-term partnership, and choosing Paris as the headquarters for EDGE Europe comes as a clear and intentional confirmation of the strength of this relationship, and we are determined to build partnerships with the same strength in various parts of the continent.
EDGE provides Europe with a broad, integrated system of capabilities, including autonomous systems, air, sea and land platforms, propulsion systems, artificial intelligence, electronic warfare, sensors and communications within a unified strategic vision.
Through its ability to integrate domains that are often divided between separate companies, EDGE Europe is uniquely positioned to deliver interconnected, multi-domain capabilities that meet the growing requirements of modern defence.
The new company will collaborate with partners across Europe, from major established defense companies to emerging defense technology companies, universities and research centers, with the aim of integrating capabilities and investing in areas that accelerate the achievement of results, and in a way that supports and enhances European industry rather than competing with it.
Edge Europe plans to attract and develop European talent, create highly skilled engineering and industrial job opportunities, and build technology on European soil to serve customers in the region and beyond.
Edge’s ambitions in Europe build on an already growing industrial base, which includes the acquisition of major stakes in pivotal companies across the region, such as Milrem Robotics in Estonia, Anavia in Switzerland, and Flares in Poland, along with the planned acquisition of CMD in Italy, joint ventures with Fincantieri and Indra, and strategic partnerships with Leonardo and Safran.
These capabilities, extending across autonomous systems, propulsion systems, air and sea domains, give Edge Europe the depth and reach necessary to launch and implement from day one, contributing to strengthening European supply chains and ensuring sovereign access to vital capabilities.
