Abu Dhabi Police warns of websites and platforms impersonating “consumer protection” through search engines

The Abu Dhabi Police General Command has warned of fake websites and platforms impersonating “consumer protection” and appearing through search engines with the aim of luring victims and obtaining their personal and banking data or persuading them to download applications and programs that allow fraudsters to access their devices.
Through its digital platforms, it said that fraudsters take advantage of some people’s desire to file complaints related to goods, commercial services, or stores, as they create fake websites and accounts bearing names and logos similar to official bodies. When the user searches for consumer protection services, he is directed to these fraudulent platforms that ask him to enter his personal or banking data under the pretext of following up on the complaint or providing assistance.
She called on the public to ensure the accuracy of the websites and links used, and not to share personal or banking data or transfer any money except through official and approved channels, while being careful to verify the entities with whom one communicates via the Internet.
She stressed the importance of reporting electronic fraud and suspicious practices via “Aman” on the number (8002626) or through text messages (2828), or through the Abu Dhabi Police smart application, which contributes to enhancing digital security and protecting society from electronic crimes.
