The Lebanese President hopes that the new round of negotiations will be more positive

Lebanese President, General Joseph Aoun, said today, Wednesday, that war does not lead to any result except ruin and destruction, and negotiations are carried out by the Lebanese state, which is the master of its decisions, and any settlement will not be at its expense.

Aoun spoke during his meeting this afternoon at Baabda Palace with a delegation of Maronite bishops in exile, according to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic.

The Lebanese President said, “Based on my experience in commanding the army and reaching the position I am in today, which is a responsibility and not a privilege, I have realized that war does not lead to any result except ruin and destruction. It is true that the path to peace and negotiation in order to achieve peace may seem long, but isn’t it better for it to be long and without losses to Lebanon and its people, than for it to be short and its cost as severe as is the case with war?”

He added, “The negotiations are being carried out by the Lebanese state, and next week there will be a new round, which we hope will be more positive, especially with the great interest of the American administration in Lebanon. No one is taking its place, and this has become a matter of conviction among everyone. The Lebanese state is the master of its own decisions, and for the first time it is the one negotiating and no one is negotiating for it.”

Aoun reassured “the Lebanese that no one links us to any other country, and any settlement will take place through us and not at our expense. This is what we will follow, and our goal is clear, regardless of the obstacles, and the right holder is Sultan. We will take our country to a good place.”

He explained, “The assurances that we have received and what we insist on are that Lebanon has an independent path in the negotiations, although we are certainly in favor of a ceasefire and with any country that helps us, including Iran. Interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs alone is not permitted.”

President Aoun stressed that “there is no fear for civil peace, and the Lebanese should not be frightened by this matter. Whoever threatens it has become weak and wants to frighten the other who is different from him in order to remain present.”
