NATO approves the modernization of its nuclear capabilities

The supreme body responsible for deterrence within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) said that the alliance has approved modernizing its nuclear capabilities and strengthening planning mechanisms for nuclear deterrence.
The participating Defense Ministers stressed that “the Alliance’s strategic nuclear forces remain the ultimate guarantee of Allied security and form the basis of NATO’s extended deterrence architecture.”
The Nuclear Planning Group includes most of the alliance’s 32 countries, with the exception of France, and is a key platform for consultation and decision-making on nuclear policies.
