"Emsteel" Leads industrial innovation and development of ES600 rebar to enhance the competitiveness of the national economy

ABU DHABI, 22nd June, 2017 (WAM) – The Emsteel Group has established its position as one of the main pillars of the industrial sector in the UAE, which places innovation and advanced technology at the center of its business, which contributes to the development of high-value products that support the country’s orientations towards building a competitive, knowledge-based industrial economy, and meeting the requirements of future vital sectors.

Emsteel, listed on the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange and one of the largest companies producing iron and building materials in the region, stands out as a model for an integrated industry, having developed a production system that includes 14 factories that rely on the latest technologies in the manufacture of iron and building materials, including direct reduction of iron and electric arc furnaces.

The group’s production capacity is about 3.5 million tons annually of long iron products, in addition to 4.6 million tons of cement and clinker and 85 million units of bricks annually, while its markets extend to more than 70 countries in Europe, the Americas, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, in an indicator that reflects the growing status of the Emirati industry and its ability to compete globally.

The group accounts for about 45% of the steel market and 12% of the cement market in the UAE, which enhances its role as a strategic partner in supporting national projects and major development projects inside and outside the country.

Engineer Saeed Ghumran Al Rumaithi, CEO of Emsteel Group, said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the industrial sector is witnessing a new phase today led by technology and innovation, and the ability to develop advanced products has become a major factor in enhancing the competitiveness of economies and raising the readiness of vital sectors for the future.

He explained that innovation is the core of Imsteel’s strategy, and a major driver of its growth. With the acceleration of urban development and the development of infrastructure projects, the need for more advanced materials, capable of achieving higher levels of performance, efficiency and sustainability, is increasing, which prompts the group to continuously invest in research, development and advanced manufacturing.

He pointed out that the group is implementing an asset improvement program worth 625 million dirhams that aims to enhance production capabilities, expand the portfolio of advanced iron products, and raise the efficiency of operational processes, in line with the goals of the “300 Billion Project” and the national strategy for industry and advanced technology, and enhance the group’s ability to meet the needs of local and global markets.

Al Rumaithi pointed out the launch of the ES600, which embodies a new stage in the UAE industry’s journey, and an affirmation of its ability to transform innovation into practical solutions that serve the needs of the future.

He added that ES600, which is the highest grade of rebar produced in the UAE, was developed according to the highest local and international standards, to keep pace with the requirements of modern projects, and provides developers and consultants with greater flexibility in design and implementation, and contributes to raising the efficiency of projects and enhancing their sustainability, in a way that supports building a more flexible and future-ready infrastructure.

He said that the importance of the ES600 does not lie only in its technical characteristics, but rather in the fact that it reflects a broader shift in the Emirati industry towards high-tech products capable of competing globally. He added: “We believe that the future of the industry will not be measured only by the volume of production, but rather by its ability to develop smarter and more sustainable products that create added value to the national economy and contribute to achieving long-term development.”

In order to enhance its competitiveness, Emsteel continues to invest in the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, as the group adopts advanced systems for artificial intelligence, data analysis, and the industrial Internet of Things, which raises the efficiency of operational processes and enhances the speed and accuracy of decision-making.

In parallel with its innovation efforts, the group maintains its leadership in the field of sustainability, as it succeeded in reducing carbon emissions by 34% in the iron sector and 9% in the cement sector in 2025 compared to 2019. It also increased the percentage of reliance on electricity from clean sources to 88.7% in iron operations and 28.6% in cement operations during the past year, as part of its commitment to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
