Trump criticizes the behavior of NATO countries and threatens not to help them

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he can refuse to provide assistance to NATO countries if they request it, after they refrained from supporting the US military operation in Iran.

Trump added during a press conference at the White House, “We spent all this money. Then when we perhaps want to get help with small matters… they say no, we prefer not to help.”

He stressed that “it is stupid to say that, because we, in turn, can tell them that if we want, and we may do so,” according to what was reported by Agence France-Presse.

Despite tense relations with the alliance, Trump is scheduled to attend the NATO summit in Ankara next month.
