The Trump administration is proceeding with a $700 million fighter engine deal for Turkey

WASHINGTON, June 26 (WAM) – The administration of US President Donald Trump has officially notified Congress of its intention to sell dozens of fighter aircraft engines to Turkey for a value of more than $700 million.
The US State Department stated in its notification to Congress that the US government is preparing to grant an export license for these components after considering political, military, economic, human rights, and arms control considerations.
Congress has 15 days to submit a joint resolution to reject the deal if it wants to prevent it, and it must be approved by the House of Representatives and the Senate, and Trump may veto it.
These engines, produced by General Electric, will be used to operate the “Qan”, the first Turkish-made stealth fighter plane, which is a major project launched in 2016 as part of Ankara’s efforts to achieve greater self-sufficiency in the field of defense.
