Ebola cases in Congo have risen to 1,203 cases, and the authorities are tightening containment measures

The number of confirmed cases of Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has risen to 1,203 cases, including 321 deaths, according to government data issued Friday.

As part of efforts to contain the outbreak, the authorities tightened their procedures and imposed travel restrictions on those returning from the affected areas, according to the Ministry of Communications and Information.

The outbreak, which was announced in mid-May, is due to the “Bundibugyo” strain, for which there is not yet a licensed vaccine or specific treatment available.
