The President of Mauritius praises the UAE’s efforts to spread and promote the values of tolerance and human brotherhood
Port Louis, June 28 / WAM / His Excellency Dharambir Gokhol, President of the Republic of Mauritius, praised the efforts of the UAE in promoting the values of tolerance and human brotherhood globally.
This came during His Excellency’s reception with His Excellency Counselor Muhammad Abdel Salam, General Counsel of the Council of Muslim Elders, Co-Chairman of Religions for Peace, on the sidelines of the 2026 Religions for Peace International Meeting, hosted by the Republic of Mauritius, with wide participation of religious and intellectual leaders from around the world.
The President of Mauritius noted the role played by the Council of Muslim Elders, headed by His Eminence the Grand Imam, Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, in spreading the culture of peace, dialogue and coexistence.
His Excellency Counselor Muhammad Abdel Salam conveyed the greetings of His Eminence the Grand Imam, Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Chairman of the Council of Muslim Elders, to His Excellency the President of Mauritius, expressing the Council’s appreciation for what Mauritius represents as a global model in coexistence between followers of religions and cultures.
The meeting discussed the efforts of the Council of Muslim Elders to establish a culture of dialogue, tolerance, coexistence and human brotherhood, and to build bridges of trust between peoples, in addition to discussing ways to protect young people’s awareness from hate speech, extremism and digital misinformation, and praising the Document on Human Fraternity as a global moral reference.
The two sides exchanged views on various ethical challenges associated with artificial intelligence, and the importance of developing ethical frameworks that ensure its use to serve humans and preserve their dignity.
In a related development, the President of Mauritius received His Eminence Sheikh Al-Islam Allah Shukr Pashazadeh, member of the Council of Muslim Elders, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Administration, and co-chair of the Religions for Peace Organization.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance dialogue between followers of religions, develop cooperation in spreading a culture of peace and coexistence, and the importance of the role of religious leaders in consolidating the values of human brotherhood and enhancing understanding between peoples.
For his part, His Eminence Sheikh of Islam Allah Shukr Pashazadeh stressed the importance of uniting the efforts of religious leaders in facing common challenges, and promoting a culture of mutual respect and human solidarity, which contributes to spreading the values of peace and consolidating coexistence between followers of different religions and cultures.
The participation of the Council of Muslim Elders in the work of the 2026 Religions for Peace International Meeting stems from its global efforts aimed at contributing to international discussions on strengthening the role of religious leaders in facing global challenges in a way that contributes to preserving human dignity, enhancing identity, and consolidating the values of peace, justice, and human brotherhood.
