Saving the life of a young man who suffered multiple and serious injuries following a traffic accident in King Salman Medical City

A specialized medical team at King Salman Medical City was able to save the life of a 17-year-old young man, following a traffic accident resulting from a vehicle overturn, which resulted in multiple and serious injuries that required urgent and rapid medical intervention.
King Salman Medical City explained that the initial medical examinations conducted at the main hospital showed that the beneficiary had suffered a burst in the descending thoracic aorta accompanied by endothelial dissection, in addition to a large blood pool around the aorta and esophagus, multiple fractures in the ribs of the rib cage with a pneumothorax, a ruptured spleen accompanied by bleeding and blood accumulation, in addition to pulmonary contusions in the right lung.
The Medical City confirmed that the case was dealt with immediately in the emergency department, where all necessary resuscitation procedures were performed, before the beneficiary was transferred to the intensive care unit under close monitoring, given the seriousness of the injuries he was suffering from.
She added that in light of the seriousness of the aortic injury, which is considered a directly life-threatening injury, the vascular surgery team conducted a precise and decisive intervention, with the aim of controlling the injury and preventing possible complications that might threaten the beneficiary’s life.
The Medical City stated that the medical team performed an advanced endovascular intervention on the beneficiary using therapeutic catheterization technology, during which a covered stent was installed for the descending thoracic aorta, while maintaining the perfusion and safety of the main branches of the arch of the thoracic aorta. The operation was crowned with success – praise be to God – and the beneficiary left the hospital in good health.
