ABC promotes sustainable financing, operational flexibility and value creation through its sustainability strategy

Bank ABC announces its continued progress in the sustainability process, stressing its firm commitment to creating added value for all concerned parties, including customers, communities and the bank’s network, through an innovative and comprehensive sustainability strategy.

The Bank has made significant progress since launching its sustainability strategy in 2023. During 2025, the Bank provided US$3 billion in sustainable financing, registering a 7.14% increase compared to the previous year, representing 13% of total loans, advances and tradable securities. The bank also directed 71% of these financing to emerging markets, benefiting from the group’s network extending across the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, North Africa, Turkey, Brazil, and Southeast Asia. This strategic distribution underscores the Bank’s focus on supporting areas most in need of transformation and development. On the debt capital markets front, ABC Bank strengthened its contribution to sustainable finance by acting as joint lead manager in arranging US$4 billion in green, social and sustainable sukuk issuances, recording a 90% increase from US$2.1 billion in 2024.

Commenting on these strategic directions, Mr. Brendon Hopkins, Acting CEO of ABC Bank Group, said: “Our sustainability strategy is not limited to reducing our environmental footprint; it extends to achieving real value that enriches the aspirations of our customers, our communities, and our shareholders. We are fully aware of our pivotal role in achieving a successful and orderly transformation in the energy sector, taking advantage of our wide global reach, tailored financing solutions, innovative capabilities, and strategic partnerships, enabling our customers to enhance their decarbonization efforts.”

Bank ABC’s sustainable financing portfolio for 2025 included a diverse range of financing, distributed between green projects (56%), social initiatives (16%), sustainability projects (11%), and sustainability-related financing (17%). This diversity contributes to enabling the bank to deal with various sustainability challenges and maximize the positive impact of its customers and communities.

In addition to financing activities, Bank ABC is taking rapid steps to reduce the environmental impact of its operations around the world after launching the 2030 Environmental Impact Reduction Plan. This trend has resulted in a 6% reduction in energy consumption in 2025, and a 12% decline in greenhouse gas emissions within Scopes 1, 2 and 3 (according to the location) compared to 2024. These results reflect the bank’s commitment to operational efficiency and environmental responsibility, which contributes to reducing costs and enhancing institutional flexibility.

In addition, in 2025, the bank launched an ESG risk assessment mechanism for clients with the aim of measuring how they manage and reduce these risks. The bank also conducted a detailed analysis of financed emissions under Scope 3, which allowed a deeper understanding of customer transformation paths and enhanced the level of engagement with them.

Bank ABC’s role towards its communities is clearly demonstrated by pumping an investment worth US$1.9 million into corporate social responsibility initiatives during the year 2025, which included 92 initiatives focused on education, environmental protection, and social justice. The bank also launched a multi-stage program to establish the principle of inclusion in the work environment, confirming its commitment to its employees and promoting diversity, equality and inclusion.

Bank ABC continues to strengthen its sustainability efforts, and looking forward, the Bank is focusing on developing a strategy to reduce emissions financed under Scope 3, and strengthening the sustainable financing framework.

As sustainability becomes increasingly important in the banking sector, the bank remains focused on integrating sustainability into its business strategy, risk management practices and customer interaction activities. Through this approach, the bank aims to create sustainable value for stakeholders, while continuing to drive economic and social development.
