المملكة: International report: Medina establishes a global model in sustainable development
Entrench Madinah its urban model within the framework of the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, through a human-centered development approach that enhances the quality of life, and balances urban development with the preservation of identity, which contributes to building a more sustainable and competitive city.
A report issued by the Oxford Business Group (Oxford Business Group) discussed the implementation of an integrated system of urban projects and initiatives, supported by strategic planning and partnerships. Institutional, in a way that enhances the quality of life and consolidates the city’s position as a global destination for living, visiting and investing, noting that the region is home to more than 2.1 million people, and includes more than 4,000 historical and cultural sites, in addition to major development projects that contribute to supporting urban and economic growth.

He highlighted the development witnessed by the transportation system in Medina, noting the operation of the public transportation network across 177 buses and 15 routes. And 371 stations, in addition to the implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, which will include 250 buses and 405 stations to cover more than 90% of the road network, in addition to its integration with the Haramain Express Train, which transported about 9 million passengers reviewed in the report.
He pointed out that humanization projects and improving the urban landscape contributed to enhancing the experience of residents and visitors, through developing the vicinity of the Prophet’s Mosque, rehabilitating Wadi Al-Aqiq, and implementing the historic Badr Trail along 175 kilometers linking 40 historical sites and 25 villages, which enhances the preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the region, and raises the quality of the urban environment.
With regard to sustainability, the report reviewed Medina’s goals for expanding green spaces, through the Green City Initiative, which aims to plant 2.1 million trees, create 777 kilometers of bicycle paths, and raise the per capita share of green spaces to 4.5 square meters, which supports the construction of a more sustainable and resilient urban environment.
