Two conditions for promotion… Unjustified absence may deprive students aged 4-12 of success

The Ministry of Education has set two basic conditions for the promotion of students in grades four to twelve to the next grade, stressing that fulfilling the academic and disciplinary aspects is a mandatory condition for moving to the next stage, while breaching any of them may lead to not being eligible for promotion, even if the other condition is met.

The Ministry explained, in the guideline for student evaluation policy, that the first condition is passing all Group A subjects, while achieving the minimum passing grade, which is set at 50% for students in grades four to eight, and 60% for students in grades nine to twelfth, in a way that ensures that the student fulfills the approved academic requirements.

The second condition relates to commitment to school attendance and discipline, as the total days of absence without an acceptable excuse must not exceed 15 days during the school year, whether the days are continuous or separate.

Calculating absence

The Ministry confirmed that the calculation of unjustified absence is not limited to regular school days, but also includes Fridays, and the days immediately preceding or following vacations, two days before and two days after vacation, in addition to the last two weeks of the second semester, and the periods preceding exams, during which each case of absence is counted as equivalent to two absences for each day, as part of the procedures aimed at reducing absences in important academic periods.

The Ministry stressed that failure to fulfill any of the conditions for promotion, whether by not passing all Group A subjects, or by exceeding the maximum allowed for unjustified absence, results in the student not being eligible to be promoted to the next grade, in accordance with the regulations and controls governing the evaluation and transfer processes between grades.

The adoption of these controls comes within the framework of strengthening school discipline, linking promotion to academic achievement and commitment to attendance, which contributes to raising the quality of educational outcomes, consolidating the culture of perseverance and responsibility among students, and achieving justice in applying evaluation standards to all public and private schools that implement the Ministry of Education curriculum.
