"Sharjah Maritime Transport" Strategies are discussed "Marine flexibility" To face the challenges of global crises
Sharjah, 1st July / WAM / The Sharjah Maritime Transport Academy, in cooperation with the Women in Shipping and Trade Association – UAE, organized a strategic dialogue session entitled “Maritime Resilience in Times of Crises: Operational Challenges and Strategic Responses”, with the participation of an elite group of experts, academics and sector leaders.
Dr. Hashim Al Zaabi, Director of the Sharjah Maritime Transport Academy, stressed during the session that flexibility has become a critical element to ensure the sustainability of the sector and the continuity of the global trade movement, stressing the Academy’s commitment to providing effective platforms for dialogue and knowledge exchange between academic and industrial institutions, with the aim of preparing innovative maritime cadres capable of leading the future of the sector and overcoming its changes with high efficiency.
The session witnessed prominent participation from Rania Tadros, Partner at the international law firm Stevenson Harwood and President of the Women in Shipping and Trade Association – UAE, and Andrew Gainey, General Manager of V. Ships UK Abu Dhabi and Director of Maritime Personnel at V. Group, along with Dr. Fardoush Salheen, Head of the Maritime Logistics and Supply Chain Management Department at the Academy. The speakers reviewed the most important lessons learned from the recent crises facing the maritime transport system, and how they contributed to raising the level of preparedness and response, while emphasizing the need for a careful balance between the continuity of operational operations and preserving the health and safety of seafarers, who represent the basic foundation for ensuring the sustainability of this vital sector.
The discussions touched extensively on the legal dimensions associated with crisis management, highlighting the role of legislative frameworks and international legal cooperation in supporting the continuity of maritime trade and reducing the risks resulting from current geopolitical developments to build sustainable confidence in the transportation system.
Participants also highlighted the UAE’s pioneering model in maintaining the flexibility of supply chains and ensuring the continuity of trade and the flow of basic goods with exceptional efficiency despite global challenges, which contributes to consolidating the country’s position as a strategic global center for logistics services and maritime trade.
The session concluded its work by identifying a package of strategic priorities directed at governments, ports, and logistics service providers, which primarily focus on accelerating the pace of digital transformation, deepening frameworks of joint cooperation between various parties, developing human competencies, as well as intensifying investment in sustainable practices to ensure building a more flexible and adaptable maritime sector.
This event reflects the commitment of the Sharjah Maritime Transport Academy to expand its qualitative partnerships and support serious discussions aimed at enhancing knowledge and innovation and building a maritime sector that enjoys the highest levels of sustainability and flexibility.
