Sharjah Police enhances community partnership and launches an awareness platform to combat drugs

The Sharjah Police General Command organized an awareness platform for drug prevention under the slogan “Protection of the Individual, Preservation of Society,” with the aim of enhancing community awareness of the dangers of drugs and spreading a security and preventive culture among members of society. Its activities will continue until July 5, in cooperation with City Center Al Zahia.
The platform included many interactive materials and awareness-raising activities, which highlighted the dangers of addiction and its health, social and security effects, in addition to introducing the latest methods of prevention, through an integrated introductory guide. The platform will also provide visitors with the opportunity to benefit from the initiative to reduce traffic points throughout the days of the event. Within the framework of encouraging community members to participate in awareness programs and promoting a culture of social responsibility.
The platform showcased an innovative interactive game in which children and adolescents pass through awareness stations that require them to choose the right or wrong path by making the appropriate decision. The experiment aims to consolidate the concept that the right decision is the way to protect the individual from falling into the clutches of drugs, in an interactive manner that combines awareness and practical experience, and reinforces preventive messages in an effective way that is easy to understand for different age groups.
The event, which was conducted, witnessed the presence of the Director General of the General Department of Criminal Security and Ports, Major General Omar Ahmed Bu Al-Zawd, the Director General of the General Department of Community Prevention and Protection, Brigadier Faisal bin Nassar, the Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Brigadier Khaled Al-Ki, the Director of the Prevention and Drug Control Directorate, Brigadier Majid Sultan Al-Assam, and a number of senior officers and officials. The platform focused on introducing the toll-free number 8004654, designated to receive reports and inquiries related to drugs. As a safe, confidential channel that contributes to strengthening community partnership, and enabling community members to report any information that contributes to protecting the community, and reducing the spread of this scourge.
Brigadier Majid Sultan Al Assam confirmed that organizing this event comes out of Sharjah Police’s keenness to consolidate the concept of prevention. As the basic pillar of combating drugs and enhancing community awareness of its dangers and effects on the individual, family and society, he pointed out that community awareness represents the first line of defense against drugs, stressing the importance of institutions, families and individuals joining forces to spread the culture of prevention and reporting.
