The World Health Organization declares the end of the Hanta virus outbreak

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced today, Thursday, the end of the wave of the Hanta virus that spread on the MV Hondius cruise ship and caused great concern at the global level.
Ghebreyesus said during a press conference in Geneva, “Today, the last person who had contact with another person who was exposed to the Hanta virus on board the cruise ship MV Hondius completed his quarantine, his test result was negative, and he returned home.”
He added, “No other cases have been recorded since May 25. We are therefore pleased at the World Health Organization to announce the end of the Hanta virus outbreak,” noting that this wave of the virus caused 13 infections, including three deaths.
The outbreak involved the Andean strain, a rare strain of the Hanta virus that usually spreads in Argentina and Chile.
The MV Hondius cruise ship, which was infected with the virus, sailed from Argentina on the first of April.
