NATO plans to replace AWACS with Global Eye reconnaissance aircraft.

Four sources told Reuters that NATO is planning to replace its old fleet of AWACS reconnaissance aircraft manufactured in the United States with alternative Swedish aircraft, in a move that may anger US President Donald Trump, who has urged allies to buy more American equipment.
Trump has repeatedly criticized European allies for relying on the United States for their security affairs, while pressuring them to increase defense spending and purchase more American equipment.
The sources said that the purchase of the “Global Eye” surveillance aircraft produced by Saab will be announced at the NATO summit in Ankara from July 7 to 8.
A NATO spokesman confirmed that a decision on replacing the AWACS aircraft would be announced during the summit, but he refused to provide details.
