The Cyber Security Council announces the success of the national system in confronting cyber attacks targeting the financial sector
ABU DHABI, 3rd July, 2017 (WAM) – The UAE Government Cybersecurity Council announced the success of the national cybersecurity system in confronting advanced cyberattacks that targeted a number of entities operating in the financial sector, as they were monitored and dealt with in accordance with approved national procedures, which contributed to containing their effects, preserving the continuity of financial services, and the stability of the digital system.
The Council affirmed that cyber monitoring and response teams work around the clock within an integrated national system, and in coordination with relevant authorities, the financial sector and strategic partners, to ensure rapid detection, analysis and response to threats in accordance with best international practices and standards, in a way that enhances the country’s readiness to confront various cyber risks.
He explained that the attacks included attempts to target digital systems and technical infrastructure, implement advanced phishing campaigns, and attempts to exploit security vulnerabilities and spread malicious software, in addition to the use of artificial intelligence techniques to develop attack methods and increase their complexity, which reflects the continuous development in the nature of cyber threats targeting the financial sector globally.
He pointed out that the national cybersecurity system continues to implement proactive measures that include continuous monitoring, exchanging cyber intelligence information, raising the level of readiness, and enhancing early detection and rapid response capabilities, ensuring the protection of digital assets and vital systems, and maintaining the reliability of financial services.
The Cybersecurity Council renewed its call on all parties to adhere to national cybersecurity controls and policies, strengthen preventive protection measures, continuously update systems, and immediately report any suspicious cyber indicators or activities through approved official channels.
He stressed that the UAE, thanks to its advanced national system and strategic partnerships, possesses advanced capabilities in the field of cybersecurity that enable it to deal efficiently with changing threats, thus enhancing the security of the digital space, maintaining the stability of the financial sector, and supporting the continuity of vital services and customer confidence.
