The first anniversary of her passing.. Raziqa Tarish, “Mother of Emirati Art”

Today, Saturday, July 4, 2026, marks the first anniversary of the death of the “Mother of Emirati Art,” the distinguished artist Raziqa Tarish, who passed away on this day last year at the age of 71, after a long career of artistic, media and cultural giving, which she began as a media personality by working on Abu Dhabi Radio in 1969, then in the seventies she moved to television.

Raziqa Tarish, born on March 6, 1954, is considered the “mother of Emirati art.” For forty years, she remained loyal to art, drama, and radio in the Emirates, through her works that remained engraved in people’s memories, as she is considered an important historical reference for the artistic and media scene in the Emirates and the Arabian Gulf, as she succeeded in establishing for herself a prestigious place, referred to as Lebanon.

The audience knows the late Emirati drama through a group of works that still form an integral part of their memory, such as: “The Two Brothers,” “Ashhafan,” “Hareem Bouhlal,” “Hayer Tayer,” “Tamasha,” “Abla Noura,” and “Al-Falta.”

Raziqa Tarish’s childhood was not ordinary. Since her ninth year, she began participating on Abu Dhabi Radio, presenting the children’s program “Abu Saad and Umm Saad,” before participating in the “Women” program in 1964 through short scenarios, in addition to her participation in the acting program “Sawab or Sawab,” before she joined as an employee at Abu Dhabi Radio in 1969.

During the ten years, between 1969 and 1979, she participated in five plays, the most prominent of which were: “God is the World,” “Patience is Beautiful,” and “The First Repent is Transformation.” After her exceptional success, she headed to the world of acting in television drama in 1976, and participated in three series, which served as her real launch. They are: “The Two Brothers”, “Ashhafan”, and “Diving”.

In addition to her radio and dramatic career, Raziqa Tarish appeared in three cinematic films: “Punishment,” “The Sermon,” and “Shadow.” In addition to her stardom as an actress in drama, she also had contributions as an author. The first work she wrote was the comedy series “Naima and Naima,” which starred Samira Ahmed and Ahmed Al Ansari, as well as the series: “Torment of Conscience” and “Ateeja and Ateej.”

It can be said that Raziqa Tarish was not only an actress, but rather a person of rare academic and artistic awareness, and her enrollment at the Higher Institute of Cinema in Egypt represented a turning point in her journey, during which she refined her artistic tools, and realized early on that art is not a luxury, but rather a responsibility and a message, which reflects the identity of society and carries its culture to subsequent generations.
