New electric bicycles to protect and facilitate the work of “sanitation engineers” in Dubai during the summer

Dubai Municipality provided light and innovative electric bicycles, equipped with air conditioning, as part of the field cleaning work system, in a step aimed at raising the efficiency of work teams and providing a more comfortable environment for “sanitation engineers”, thus enhancing the efficiency of field cleaning work and waste collection in residential areas, especially during the summer season and the accompanying rise in temperatures and humidity.
The municipality confirmed that providing the new electric bicycles comes within the framework of its ongoing efforts to enhance the sustainability of the city’s cleanliness, and to consolidate reliance on environmentally friendly equipment, which contributes to improving air quality, reducing the carbon footprint, and supporting green initiatives, as part of its approach to employing smart solutions and sustainable innovations to preserve the cultural appearance of Dubai, enhance the quality of life, and consolidate the city’s position as a global model in sustainability.
She explained to “Emirates Today” that these bicycles contribute to facilitating the tasks of “sanitation engineers” during hot climates, by reducing the thermal stress that they may be exposed to during field work in times of high temperatures and humidity, which provides them with a more comfortable and safer work environment, and helps raise productivity and improve the efficiency of carrying out cleaning work in residential areas.
The bikes have a speed of up to 45 kilometers per hour, with an operating capacity of 8 to 10 hours on a single charge, allowing them to be used throughout the work day without the need for frequent recharging. It was also provided with a waste collection container with a capacity ranging between 180 and 240 litres, and can accommodate about 90 kilograms of waste, which reduces the number of emptying times and enhances the efficiency of collection operations in the field.
The bikes operate with lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 125 ampere-hours, and weigh about 315 kilograms with the battery. They are designed to be 100% environmentally friendly, which contributes to reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality, in line with Dubai’s trends in shifting towards more sustainable means of operation.
This trend comes in line with Dubai Municipality’s strategy aimed at developing the cleaning services system by employing modern technologies and innovative solutions, in a way that enhances the efficiency of municipal services, improves the field work environment, and keeps pace with the emirate’s goals in sustainability and quality of life, while paying special attention to protecting “sanitation engineers” and enabling them to perform their tasks efficiently during the summer months.
