The Minister of Economy and Tourism discusses with two Korean and Singaporean ministers enhancing cooperation in intellectual property
Geneva, July 8 / WAM / His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, discussed during a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Kim Young-sun, Minister of Intellectual Property of the Republic of South Korea; His Excellency Edwin Tong, Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs of Singapore; Strengthening cooperation in intellectual property activities and fields, developing innovation, and developing the protection of industrial designs.
This came on the sidelines of the UAE delegation’s participation in the meetings of the 68th session of the Assemblies of Member States of WIPO, held at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, during the period from 7 to 15 July.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq discussed, with the Korean Minister, ways to expand the horizons of cooperation in the fields of intellectual property, and the two sides agreed to implement a three-year work plan, which includes the exchange of information and experiences regarding the standards for examining patents and industrial designs, and related guidelines and practices, in a way that contributes to developing and improving the quality and efficiency of examination processes.
The action plan also focuses on organizing training programs and workshops targeting intellectual property employees, examiners, and stakeholders, in a way that enhances technical knowledge and establishes the best professional practices in the fields of patents, trademarks, and industrial designs.
The plan also includes exploring opportunities to employ artificial intelligence technologies to protect and enforce intellectual property rights, including combating counterfeiting and trademark infringement, while enhancing societal awareness of the importance of protecting intellectual property rights.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq discussed, with the Singaporean Minister, opportunities for cooperation in developing intellectual property policies and legislation, in a way that contributes to supporting innovation and improving the efficiency of the intellectual property rights protection system in the two countries, and exchanging experiences and best practices in this vital field.
The Emirati side reviewed the legislative development of the intellectual property system in the country, which included the issuance of the law regulating and protecting industrial property rights, the trademark law, and the copyright and related rights law, which contributed to providing an integrated legislative framework to protect intellectual property rights and support emerging entrepreneurial projects and cultural and creative industries.
