14 people were injured after a train car derailed in Egypt

The Egyptian National Railway Authority reported, on Saturday, that a train car derailed in the village of Mahalla Rouh, affiliated with the Tanta Center in Gharbia Governorate in the north of the country, resulting in the injury of 14 people, according to a preliminary toll.

The authority said in a statement, “While train No. 450 (Damanhour/Qalin/Tanta) was entering Mahalla Rouh station at exactly 7:50 a.m. today (Saturday), the first wheel of the carriage behind the tractor came off the rails, resulting in a number of minor injuries.”

Initial medical reports indicated that most of the injuries ranged from bruises to suspected fractures and dislocations of the joints, while one of the injured left the hospital after his condition improved.

The Authority indicated that it “sent emergency teams, cranes, and the necessary equipment to the accident site to deal with the situation, work to return the carriage to its track, and restore the regularity of train movement as quickly as possible and according to its normal rates.”

The Authority also decided to form a specialized technical committee to determine the technical causes of the incident and take the necessary measures in light of the results of the examination and investigation.
