"Fujairah Natural Resources" Enhancing the emirate’s leadership in the field of sustainable mining through a legislative system and strategic partnerships
Fujairah, 11 July / WAM / The Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation continues to establish an integrated model for sustainable mining, through an advanced system of legislation, oversight, innovation and strategic partnerships, in line with the vision of the wise leadership aimed at achieving sustainable economic development that preserves the environment and natural resources, and supports the UAE’s goals in sustainable development.
Through its qualitative initiatives and programs, the Corporation was able to strengthen the position of the Emirate of Fujairah as a leading regional center in the sustainable mining sector, by adopting the best international practices and developing the work system to keep pace with the requirements of the future.
His Excellency Engineer Ali Qasim Al Kindi, Director General of the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation, said in a special statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the Corporation continues to implement a comprehensive strategy to apply the principles of sustainability in various mining activities, based on developing systems and legislation regulating the sector in accordance with the best international practices, enhancing environmental control over quarries and crushers, and ensuring compliance with environmental requirements.
He explained that the Foundation is implementing a group of initiatives that support the goals of national sustainability, the UAE’s vision for the future, and the Fujairah 2040 Plan, as well as encouraging innovation and consolidating social responsibility through specialized awards and incentive programs.
The Fujairah Natural Resources Foundation adopts a set of indicators to measure the efficiency of companies operating in the sector, including the level of commitment to environmental, health and occupational safety requirements, reducing emissions and dust resulting from mining and crushing operations, raising the efficiency of resource and energy consumption, increasing reliance on modern technologies and digital systems, improving compliance rates with regulatory requirements and licenses, in addition to encouraging participation in initiatives and awards related to sustainability and social responsibility.
The Corporation has achieved notable achievements in the field of environmental protection in quarries and crushers, through the establishment and development of integrated programs for environmental monitoring, and the adoption of the latest devices to monitor air quality, noise, and vibrations, which contributes to reducing the environmental impacts of mining activities.
It launched the Fujairah International Award for Best Sustainable Mining Practices, the first of its kind in the Middle East, with the aim of motivating companies to adopt innovative environmental solutions and to consolidate the concept of sustainable mining within the policies and procedures of the sector in the emirate.
In a related context, the strategic partnerships concluded by the Foundation contributed to supporting environmental sustainability, by enhancing scientific and technical cooperation in the fields of earth sciences and mineral resource development, exchanging experiences and best global practices in environmental management and sustainable mining, in addition to raising the level of companies’ awareness of the importance of adopting environmentally friendly practices through the “Our Partners in Sustainability” initiative, and encouraging investment in technologies that support reducing emissions and protecting natural resources, as well as attracting international experts and specialists through the Fujairah International Mining Conference, in a way that enhances the transfer of knowledge and the exchange of successful experiences.
The Corporation has adopted a package of advanced technologies to enhance the sustainability of natural resources, including continuous environmental surveillance and monitoring systems in mining areas, employing digital solutions, artificial intelligence techniques and data analysis, and using automation and digital transformation techniques to raise operational efficiency and reduce environmental impact, in addition to supporting innovative projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions, and developing geological databases and information systems to support decision-making and efficient management of natural resources.
In the field of occupational safety, the Corporation pays great attention to qualifying its national cadres to deal with the challenges of the mining sector, by implementing continuous training programs in accordance with approved international standards in the fields of environment, safety and mining, enhancing field inspection and control procedures to ensure the safety of workers and facilities, spreading a culture of prevention, risk management and emergency response in mining sites, in addition to benefiting from international conferences and forums to learn about the latest global practices in the fields of occupational safety and sustainability.
