The UAE welcomes the United States’ decision to raise its classification in the export controls system

The UAE welcomed the US decision to raise its classification to the category A5 in the export controls system, considering that the step reflects the depth of the strategic partnership and mutual trust between the two countries, and enhances cooperation in the fields of technology, security, trade and investment.
The Minister of State and UAE Ambassador to the United States, Yousef Al Otaiba, confirmed in a statement that “this decision reinforces decades of deep and reliable cooperation between the UAE and the United States in the fields of technology, security, trade and investment.”
He added: “Over six successive US presidential administrations, the UAE has established itself as one of the most committed and reliable partners of the United States. In 2024, the United States classified the UAE as a major defense partner, reflecting the depth of trust that characterizes the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The statement continued: “The UAE is the largest trading partner of the United States of America and its main export destination in the Middle East and North Africa region. The United States also achieves a trade surplus with the UAE worth $23.8 billion, which is its fourth largest trade surplus in the world. The United States has also placed its confidence in the UAE and its companies to acquire American civil nuclear energy technologies and deploy the latest and most advanced American defense systems.”
The statement stressed that this decision opens new horizons for joint research and development, deepens technological cooperation, expands trade horizons, and strengthens the defense partnership, as the UAE looks forward to building on this common foundation and working with the United States to establish a more stable, secure, and prosperous future for the peoples of the two countries.
