An agreement between “Smart Watt” and “BSES” to develop electricity networks in New Delhi

Smart Watt, a consulting and integrated energy services company based in Abu Dhabi, and BSES Rajdhani Power, one of the largest electricity distribution companies in India, signed a strategic agreement in the presence of the UAE Ambassador to the Republic of India, Dr. Abdel Nasser Al Shaali, within the “Resilience” initiative, during a ceremony hosted by the UAE Embassy in New Delhi.

This agreement aims to benefit from innovative Emirati solutions and employ them to develop the Indian energy sector, as the Emirati company “Smart Watt” combines, through the “Resilience” initiative, artificial intelligence technologies, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and distributed energy sources (DERs), to help electricity companies build smarter, more flexible and sustainable electricity networks.

Smartwatt and BSES completed technical assessments, identified priority substations and network bottlenecks, and began the transition toward developing implementation plans to enable demand-side flexibility across the Delhi network.

This initiative seeks to establish a scalable operating model that enhances the efficiency of responding to the increasing demand for energy, so that it can be gradually replicated across India, supporting utility and electricity companies in accelerating the shift towards more flexible, smart and sustainable networks.

The initiative includes developing an AI-powered command and control center to manage and coordinate resources, providing companies with real-time monitoring capabilities, operational optimization capabilities, and a scalable infrastructure for future network services.

Co-founder and CEO of Smart Watt, Dr. Sameh Al-Khatib, said, “The agreement represents an important step in transferring Emirati innovation to the Indian market,” stressing that the “Resilience” initiative was developed in the UAE to address one of the most prominent challenges of rapidly growing economies, which is enhancing the flexibility and sustainability of electricity networks without affecting their reliability. He added: “Our partnership with (BSES) allows us to introduce this innovation to one of the most advanced distribution networks in the world, as this technology was developed in Abu Dhabi to serve consumers in Delhi.”

For his part, CEO of BSES Rajdhani Power, Abhishek Ranjan, stressed that this cooperation will help the company meet the growing demand while moving forward with its sustainability goals.

This cooperation comes within the framework of a growing series of partnerships between business sectors and companies, which reflects the depth of the growing trade relations between the UAE and the Republic of India. The volume of bilateral trade between the two countries has exceeded the barrier of 100 billion US dollars, and the two governments aim to reach 200 billion dollars by 2032.
