A Saudi medical team diagnoses a rare blood disease

A Saudi medical team at King Faisal General Hospital in Al-Ahsa succeeded in diagnosing a rare case of a blood clotting disorder in a newborn baby, the first of its kind in Al-Ahsa, in an achievement that reflects the development the health sector in the Kingdom is witnessing in providing specialized and advanced health care.
Al-Ahsa Health Cluster explained that the urgent intervention of the treating medical team within the systems and processes of the Saudi health care model contributed to saving the life of a newborn child, represented by factor X deficiency, which is one of the rare blood diseases that leads to clotting, which poses a threat to the individual’s life.
He stated that the case was diagnosed accurately within the neonatal intensive care center, through integrated coordination between specialized medical teams within the safe delivery and urgent care systems – within the Saudi health care model systems -.
Al-Ahsa Health Assembly indicated that dealing with the child’s condition in accordance with approved medical protocols contributed urgently to avoiding possible complications, and the child left the hospital in good health without recording any significant complications, under the supervision of consultants and with the active participation of nursing and pharmaceutical staff.
The association added that urgent intervention and detection of genetic defects through early specialized clinical and genetic examinations helped reach the accurate final diagnosis and develop the appropriate treatment plan, noting that the medical efforts were crowned – praise be to God – with the success of the treatment and the stabilization of the beneficiary’s condition.
