France prohibits the use of social media for those under 15 years of age

Today, Tuesday, the French Parliament finally approved a draft law prohibiting the use of social media for those under the age of fifteen, in a first of its kind in Europe.
This reform is scheduled to take effect in September to protect the health of children and adolescents.
Following the Senate vote in the afternoon, representatives approved the reform by a vote of 279 to 81.
The reform that French President Emmanuel Macron had promised, and which constitutes one of the most prominent measures taken at the end of his term, will require social media platforms to implement age verification systems, a topic that has been the subject of debate.
The text also prohibits the use of mobile phones in schools.
