Two brain dead people give 7 beneficiaries chances of life through organ donation in Al-Ahsa

Two brain dead patients at King Fahad Hospital in Hofuf – one of the components of Al-Ahsa Health Community – contributed to saving the lives of seven beneficiaries and ending their suffering with organ failure, after their families agreed to donate organs, in a humanitarian stance that embodies the values ​​of giving and altruism in Saudi society, and confirms the great impact of organ donation programs in giving patients new opportunities for life. Al-Ahsa Health Cluster explained that the team at the Organ Donation Unit at King Fahd Hospital in Hofuf began dealing with the two cases as soon as brain death was confirmed in accordance with the approved national protocol, and the completion of all relevant medical and regulatory procedures, in coordination with the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation. The association stated that the specialized cadres were keen to educate the families of the deceased about the importance of organ donation and its humanitarian impact, as the two families expressed their approval for the donation, which contributed to saving a number of beneficiaries who were waiting for an opportunity to undergo transplant operations. In detail, a Saudi medical team was able to remove two kidneys and transplant them successfully. The left kidney was transplanted to an 82-year-old patient, while the right kidney was transplanted to a 71-year-old patient, and both operations were successful. Meanwhile, a heart transplant for a 4-year-old girl, a lung transplant for a 51-year-old patient, a liver transplant for a 68-year-old beneficiary, a left kidney for a 68-year-old beneficiary, and a right kidney for a 64-year-old patient were successful. All transplant operations were successful. This achievement comes as an extension of the Al-Ahsa Health Council’s efforts to promote the culture of organ donation and raise the level of community awareness of the importance of this humanitarian work, within the Saudi health care model of organ donation, which contributes to improving the quality of life for patients with terminal organ failure. For its part, the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation praised the efforts of Al-Ahsa Health Community and its excellence in managing organ donation cases, appreciating the integrated work of the medical, nursing and technical teams at King Fahd Hospital in Hofuf, including intensive care units, neurological diseases, neurosurgery, cardiac catheterization, radiology, laboratories, operations and support departments. The center stressed that these efforts reflect the health system’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of patients and giving them new hope in life, noting that this success embodies the level of integration between health authorities in the Kingdom, and the vital role of organ donation programs in enhancing the sustainability of health services, and contributing to achieving the goals of the health sector transformation program and Saudi Vision 2030, in a way that enhances the quality of life and provides greater opportunities for treatment.
