Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi: The national program for developing the statistical system enhances data quality and supports decision-making

SHARJAH, July 23, 2018 (WAM) – Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Statistics and Community Development in Sharjah, confirmed that the adoption of the national program for developing the statistical system in the country represents a strategic step that enhances the integration of the national statistical system and improves the quality of official economic statistics in a way that supports decision-making, keeps pace with rapid economic changes, and enhances the competitiveness of the UAE.
He explained that the national program embodies the country’s orientations towards developing a modern national statistical system based on best international practices and standards and contributes to providing more accurate and reliable data and indicators to support planning and decision-making.
He stressed the department’s commitment to continuing to strengthen cooperation with the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics and its partners in the national statistical system and to develop statistical work in accordance with the latest international methodologies in a way that contributes to the production of high-quality economic and social data that reflects the development reality and supports the development process in the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE.
The national program for developing the statistical system comes within the framework of the state’s efforts to modernize the national statistical system by developing national accounts, adopting the year 2024 as a unified base year, expanding data sources, and enhancing integration between federal and local agencies in a way that enhances the reliability of official statistics, raises the efficiency of planning, and supports the formulation of economic and development policies.
