Amna Al-Dahhak: Insert "Wadi Wurayah" It is on the UNESCO list as a global achievement that crowns the UAE’s leadership in nature conservation
Dubai, July 25 / WAM / Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahhak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, confirmed that the inclusion of the “Wadi Wurayah” Reserve on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), becoming the first Emirati site to be included in the list for its exceptional natural value, represents a historical milestone and an international achievement that reflects the great interest that the UAE attaches to the protection and sustainability of nature.
Her Excellency stressed that this global recognition is the result of the UAE’s vision, which places environmental protection and nature conservation at the core of its development policies, to continue consolidating its position as a leading global model in advanced environmental management.
Her Excellency said: We extend our highest congratulations and blessings to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” and to His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, and the people of the Emirates on the occasion of this honorable national achievement. This global entitlement to the Wadi Wurayah Reserve would not have been achieved without their wise vision, unlimited support, and diligent follow-up to consolidate the position of the emirate and the state as a leading model in environmental sustainability.
She added: This exceptional achievement is an authentic extension of the well-established environmental approach that was laid down by the late founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God rest his soul.” The preservation of living organisms and endangered species represents a fundamental pillar of our national strategy to enhance biodiversity, and it is an approach that today culminates decades of diligent work based on the latest studies, scientific research, and the unique natural capabilities that the country enjoys. Perhaps this commitment is clearly evident in the breadth of The 54 natural reserves now constitute about 19% of the total area of the country, so that these reserves, at the heart of which is Wadi Wurayah, with its exceptional mountainous ecosystem and fresh resources, remain a safe habitat full of rare and endangered species.
Her Excellency concluded: Today we stand with pride in front of this global recognition, which proves once again that the UAE is not only keeping pace with international standards in environmental governance, but is leading them, and we seize this historic moment to congratulate and extend a greeting of profound thanks and appreciation to all national work teams, including leaders, experts, researchers, and field cadres, who continued day and night on a long journey of preparation, documentation, and study to highlight the exceptional value of Wadi Wurayah.
