DEWA International is looking to expand its partnerships and operations in the United Kingdom

LONDON, 26 JULY/WAM/ His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and Chairman of DEWA International, during his meeting in London with officials from ING Bank and Actis, reviewed the framework of DEWA International and its development ambitions.

He stressed that with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, Dubai has become a global capital of economy, trade and innovation, and a pioneering model in sustainable development.

During the meeting, His Excellency explained that DEWA International Company was recently established to strengthen Dubai’s global position and transfer DEWA’s established expertise and its successful operational model to international markets.

The DEWA International delegation to the United Kingdom included Eng. Walid bin Salman, Executive Vice President of the Business Development and Excellence Sector, and Eng. Marwan bin Haider, Executive Vice President of the Innovation and Future Sector, in addition to a number of senior DEWA officials.

Based on the authority’s capabilities in project development, financing, technology, digital innovation, project management, and operations, DEWA International plans to create, develop, finance, implement, and operate electricity and water infrastructure projects around the world.

His Excellency pointed out that Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, over the decades, has contributed to driving the remarkable growth of the Emirate of Dubai through ambition and outstanding performance. The authority ranks first in the world in 13 key performance indicators within its fields of work, and two regional indicators in the field of service institutions, across the sectors of production, transportation, distribution, and customer service. While the authority recorded the shortest duration of power outages in the world, with an average of 0.82 minutes (about 49 seconds) annually per customer. The lowest percentage of losses in electricity transmission and distribution networks in the world was 2%, and the percentage of losses in water transmission and distribution networks reached 4.4%, which is one of the lowest percentages in the world.

He added that Dubai Electricity and Water continues to work to achieve the goals of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050, by expanding reliance on renewable and clean energy, and raising the efficiency of production and consumption. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park represents the pillar of this transformation, as it is the largest solar energy park in one location in the world according to the independent energy producer system, and combines photovoltaic and concentrated solar energy technologies, energy storage and green hydrogen production.

Clean energy currently constitutes more than 21.5% of the energy mix in Dubai, and this percentage is expected to reach 36% by 2030, compared to 25% of the original plan. The production capacity of the complex will reach more than 8,000 megawatts by 2030, instead of 5,000 megawatts, which will contribute to reducing carbon emissions by more than 8.5 million tons annually, instead of 6.5 million tons.
