Dubai Islamic launches the direct debit card "Jeon"

DUBAI, July 27, 2017 (WAM) – Dubai Islamic announced the launch of the “Gewan” direct debit card, allowing its customers who hold current and savings accounts the opportunity to benefit from the UAE’s first-of-its-kind national payment card system.
Al-Etihad Payments Company, affiliated with the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, developed the “GEON” system with the aim of developing an integrated national infrastructure for payment cards, enhancing the flexibility of the payment infrastructure in the country, and supporting the secure processing of payment data within the UAE.
The bank stressed that this initiative supports strengthening national sovereignty and the independence of the payments infrastructure, and also contributes to supporting the UAE’s ambitions to maintain its leadership in the field of digital payments and financial innovation.
Dr. Adnan Chilwan, CEO of Dubai Islamic Group, said on this occasion that the launch of the national payment system “Gewan” represents a turning point in the UAE’s journey towards building a more sovereign, flexible and future-ready payment system, and based on Dubai Islamic’s position as the largest Islamic bank in the country, it has the responsibility of supporting national initiatives that strengthen the pillars of the national economy and contribute to transforming strategic visions into a tangible reality by expanding the scope of their adoption and approval.
