UNESCO includes the Chinese Spring Festival on the list of intangible cultural heritage

BEIJING, 4 December / WAM / The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced today the inclusion of “Social Practices of the Chinese People in Celebrating the Traditional New Year – Spring Festival” on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, during the meetings of the nineteenth session of the Intergovernmental Committee. for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Paraguay.
The People’s Daily Online reported that this new cultural achievement makes China lead the world in terms of the number of items included in UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage lists, with the total number of registered items reaching 44.
This decision comes to enhance the global status of Chinese cultural heritage, as it reflects the importance of the Spring Festival as one of the most prominent social and cultural practices inherited in Chinese society, which is receiving increasing international attention.
It is noteworthy that the Chinese Spring Festival is one of the most important traditional occasions in Chinese culture, as Chinese families have celebrated it for thousands of years, and it includes many rituals and social practices that reflect the depth and authenticity of the Chinese cultural heritage.
