An exceptional appearance of Bryde’s whale in Fujairah

In a scene that reflects the beauty and health of the marine environment in the Emirate of Fujairah, the Fujairah Environment Authority spotted a “Bryde” whale near the Port of Fujairah in coordination with the Port of Fujairah and the Fujairah Research Center. Immediately, the Authority formed a team of specialists to monitor the whale’s movements and develop systematic scientific plans to return it to its path, as it is considered a migratory whale.

The Fujairah Environment Authority used experts from the Yas SeaWorld Research and Rescue Center, alongside its biodiversity team and the Fujairah Research Center team, to carry out the necessary medical examinations to check on the whale’s health and vital indicators, all of which resulted in positive indicators and health safety.

The Fujairah Environment Authority, in coordination with the Fujairah Port, the Fujairah Research Center, and the Yas SeaWorld Research and Rescue Center, is working to closely monitor the whale around the clock to ensure its safety, protect property without affecting navigational traffic in the Fujairah Port, and return it to its environment safely.

This exceptional event confirms the health of the marine environment of the Emirate of Fujairah and documents the scientific information contained in the book Whales and Dolphins issued by the Fujairah Environment Authority within the series of natural history books, thus translating the environmental efforts made by the Fujairah Environment Authority in cooperation with the Fujairah Research Center and the leading research bodies in the country.

The Emirate of Fujairah is famous for its unique biological diversity and blue waters rich in coral reefs and living organisms, and perhaps this was a major reason for attracting the whale during its migration path, as our territorial waters include 5 marine reserves and are home to abundant marine biological diversity, including many unique species, making the coastline The emirate is an ideal place for a marine experience.

Her Excellency Asila Al Mualla, Director of the Fujairah Environment Authority, explained that Bryde’s whales are a type of baleen whales found in warm and temperate waters around the world, and they are known for their streamlined bodies.

Her Excellency Asila Al Mualla added: The appearance of a Bryde’s whale, whose scientific name is Balaenoptera edeni, has been documented in the port of Fujairah, where it has been present in the port area since the past few days, and the authority is working with the specialized teams to return it to its path. The estimated length of the whale is about 9 to 10 metres, a size that indicates that it is not a fully mature adult, but rather past the juvenile stage.

She indicated that the whale does not currently suffer from any medical conditions that require direct medical intervention, as the Fujairah Environment Authority is currently working in cooperation with the relevant authorities and experts to return it to its path.

The Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman are suitable habitats for it, which explains its presence on the coasts of the Emirates. Bryde’s whale also feeds on small fish and marine creatures, and usually approaches the coast to search for food, and this explains its approach to the coast of Fujairah.
