After the arrest of the former Defense Minister, South Korean police search the president’s office
Police are searching President Yeon Suk-yul’s office, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Former South Korean Defense Minister Kim Jong-hyun was officially arrested on Wednesday, “local time”, due to his alleged complicity with President Yeon Suk-yul and others in imposing martial law last week.
While authorities investigate whether their actions amount to rebellion.
The martial law, the first in more than 40 years, lasted only about six hours, but it sparked an internal storm and large protests in the streets.

Yoon and his aides are facing criminal investigations and impeachment attempts, and the Justice Ministry has banned Yoon and eight other officials from leaving the country as authorities consider them prime suspects in the martial law case.
This is the first time a South Korean president has been banned from traveling while in office.
The Seoul Central District Court said it granted prosecutors’ request to issue an arrest warrant for former Defense Minister Kim on charges of rebellion and abuse of power.
Conviction on mutiny charges carries a maximum penalty of death, and Kim became the first person to be arrested in this case.
