The Director of Associations and Non-Governmental Institutions at the Ministry of Interior, Ali Al-Otaibi, estimated the number of beneficiaries of association programs during a year at 4,580 beneficiaries in a program to rehabilitate those recovering from addiction, and 6,320 beneficiaries in a program to continue recovery in rehabilitative activities.
He explained during the first session of the second day of the second scientific forum of the Charitable Society for Those Recovering from Drugs and Psychotropic Substances “Taafi,” which it holds in cooperation with the Saudi Society for Addiction Treatment under the title “Addiction Treatment…Modern Rehabilitation Trends,” that the number of associations concerned with drugs in the Kingdom is 27 associations. , under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior, and 13 associations under the supervision of the Ministry of Health.

Treatment of drug phenomenon

He added that non-profit organizations represented in civil society associations specialized in treating the drug phenomenon are an essential partner for government efforts in treating the drug phenomenon, and that the general goal of the associations is to protect members of society on the preventive, developmental and therapeutic aspects, which differ in their sub-objectives to form an integration to provide service to the beneficiaries and their families according to the objectives. Every association.
He stated in a paper entitled “The Role of the Department of Associations and Private Institutions at the Ministry of Interior in the Process of Rehabilitating Addiction Cases,” that specialized associations provide treatment and rehabilitation for addicts with several diverse programs targeting the beneficiary, the family, and community institutions, stressing the importance of awareness and education through the preparation of preventive programs, protective factors, and treatment programs. And family upbringing.
For his part, the founder of the Coordinating Committee for Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation Societies in the Kingdom, Muhammad Al-Farraj, revealed, during a paper entitled “The Role of the Coordinating Committee for Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation Societies,” the work on amending and facilitating some procedures in the treatment and rehabilitation protocol for facilitating procedures for licensing treatment and rehabilitation centers in cooperation with Some government agencies.

Rehabilitation of drug patients

He stressed that the committee is keen to be an umbrella for all associations working in the rehabilitation of drug patients, by providing service, representation and empowerment.
He continued that the coordinating committee has developed a plan for the year 2025, which consists of cooperating with the prison administration to contain drug addicts, as it has developed rehabilitation programs for addicts in prisons throughout the year and through repeated visits.
In turn, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Enaya Health Association, Mishari Bin Dalila, stated in a paper entitled “Togetherness Initiative to Support the National Campaign Against Drugs,” that the total number of beneficiaries of the “Enaya” Association reached more than 50 thousand beneficiaries, with an economic value exceeding 500 million riyals during 18 months. General.
He continued that the vision of the initiative is to be a system of health and rehabilitation services to reduce drug abuse, while the mission revolves around providing integrated health and rehabilitation services to reduce drug abuse through effective and sustainable initiatives and partnerships.
He stressed that the objectives of the initiative lie in strengthening society’s immunity from the scourge of drugs in accordance with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, establishing awareness and preventive programs in various media, organizing training and development programs for the groups targeted by the initiative, in addition to providing care, rehabilitation and psychological and social support programs for those recovering.

Treatment of addicts

He added that the goals of the initiative in the first phase are to qualify 30 workers in the field of treating addicts, while the number of beneficiaries reached 111, and 100 beneficiaries to qualify volunteers to raise awareness of the harms of drugs, in addition to 600,000 views on social media.
He called for developing treatment alternatives for addiction patients, creating an electronic platform to provide counseling sessions for addiction patients, providing special services for women to treat addiction patients, in addition to strengthening relations with the Fellowship of Narcotics Anonymous to support those recovering from addiction, and finally qualifying specialized cadres to treat addiction patients.
The director of therapeutic and rehabilitative programs and the official spokesman for the “Taafi” Association, Abdullah Al-Harithi, pointed out in a paper entitled “The Program for the Rehabilitation of Addiction Cases in Associations, the Taafi Association Programme,” that the association established a starting house to contain those recovering from drugs in the city of Dammam.
Al-Harithi highlighted the association’s achievements for the current year, which included 1,164 group therapy sessions, 1,171 laboratory samples, 168 matrix sessions, 1,080 consultations, and 95 family programs.
