Under the patronage of Hamdan bin Zayed… Rashid bin Hamdan bin Zayed honors the award winners "Gold listing 2024 "

ABU DHABI, 13 December 2020 – Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan honored the winners of the second cycle of the Narrative of Gold Award 2024, at a ceremony organized by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center in Hisn Al Dhafra, celebrating the pioneers of popular narratives, narrators and creators in the fields of storytelling And the visual.

During the ceremony, Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan honored the Iraqi writer and novelist, Yas Al-Fahdawi, who won first place in the short story branch for unpublished narrative works, for his story “Rooms Under which People Run,” and the Sudanese writer and novelist, Abdul Rahman Abbas, for winning the place. The first in the short story branch of published narrative works, for his story “The Last Storyteller of This Time,” by Bahraini Dr. Dhia Abdullah Khamis. Al Kaabi, for her novel “Bahraini Folk Tales, A Thousand and One Tales,” winning first place in the Folk Narratives branch.

Within the visual narration branch, Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan honored the Iraqi artist Mahmoud Shubar, for his painting “Antarah and Abla,” and the Emirati storyteller Obaid bin Sandal, who won first place in the narrators branch, in appreciation of his status as one of the prominent storytellers and his pioneering efforts in the movement. It also honored the American academic and researcher Roy Casagranda for winning first place in the Emirati narrative branch. For his efforts in highlighting the values ​​of resuming civilization, acculturation, and civilizational communication, and his in-depth study of how sciences are transmitted from Arab civilization to other civilizations, and his starting in his writings, lectures, and research from the values ​​that the award is keen on, and which support tolerance and coexistence between religions, nations, and peoples.

The awards ceremony was witnessed by His Excellency Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, His Excellency Nasser Mohammed Al Mansouri, Undersecretary of the Court of the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, His Excellency Saud Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department, and His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim, President of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language. His Excellency Ali Obaid Al Hameli, Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the Gold Narrative Award, and His Excellency Abdullah Majid Al Ali, Director General of the National Archives and Library.

His Excellency Saud Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for his generous sponsorship of the award, and said that the honor consolidates the goals of the award, which are to celebrate creators and support distinguished narrative publications, which represent an integral part of Culture and heritage of the UAE and the Arab region.

He added that the award was able, due to its closeness to the minds and hearts of the recipients, and its connection to their collective memory, to enhance Arab culture and its values, in a simple, far from affectation manner that embraces the finest meanings of expressing and elevating national identity.

For his part, His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim, President of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, said that the ceremony honoring the winners concludes a distinguished phase of the Sard Al-Dhahab Award, which is innovative in its details, and is the beginning of a new phase of excellence that the award will witness in its subsequent sessions.

He added that the award touched the Arab conscience through its sponsorship of popular narrative arts, and within a short period of time it became an inspiration for the pioneers of this authentic art, and a real platform that celebrates their works, which is evident in the large number of entries that the award received in its various branches, which exceeds 1,213 works.

His Excellency Ali Obaid Al Hameli, Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the Gold Narrative Award, congratulated the winners of the second session, appreciating the important status of the award, which takes its name from the thought of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him.

He considered that the award is a qualitative addition to cultural and cognitive creativity by honoring popular narrative arts, and by reflecting the leadership of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the UAE in the cultural field, and its embrace of creativity, knowledge, and initiatives to preserve and revive Arab heritage to form a compass and pillar for future generations.
