"Sheikha Hind course".. 12 years of supporting the progress of women’s sports

Dubai, December 14 / WAM / The Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Games, organized by the Dubai Sports Council, is one of the most prominent women’s sports events in the Emirates and the region.
The course contributed to supporting the progress of women’s sports in Dubai, attracting talent, and spreading culture and awareness of the importance of sports for women as an essential factor in sustaining health.
The tournament was launched in 2012, under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him. The idea came to launch a comprehensive sporting event that addresses women and provides… It has the appropriate environment for competition and excellence in sports.
Since its inception, the course has developed significantly year after year, witnessing a significant increase in the number of participants in each edition, and continues to attract attention for the specialized programs and initiatives it offers, and for its role in enhancing awareness of the importance of sports and physical activity for women’s health and making it a way of life.
The course includes a wide range of sports, including basketball, volleyball, swimming, athletics, bowling, chess, and fitness sports.
The last edition of the tournament, which was held at the end of last October, witnessed the participation of more than 1,200 female players in 8 sports: bowling, running, cycling, padel, badminton, archery, steeplechase, and triple basketball.
Over the course of 12 years, the course turned into an ideal platform to encourage women to participate in sports at different levels, whether as professionals or amateurs, and to raise the level of competitiveness among female players. It succeeded in promoting sports values, cooperation, teamwork, and discipline, which reflects positively on the participants within. And outside the sports field.
The tournament proved successful in discovering talent and female sports stars, and became a milestone in the progress of women’s sports in the Emirates.
Dr. Noura Al Marzouqi, Member of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Arch and Arrow Federation and Head of the Federation’s Women’s Sports Committee, confirmed that the Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Games represents an integrated platform for women’s sports creativity because it gave them a great and important opportunity to highlight their talents and discover their abilities.
She explained that since its launch in 2012, the tournament has witnessed many important outcomes at the level of women’s sports, and highlighted the UAE’s pioneering role in empowering women and giving them the opportunity to excel in various sporting activities.
For her part, Siham Al-Rashidi, a player for the UAE National Athletics Team for People of Determination, pointed to the strong competitions in all sports included in the Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament, and their role in discovering talent and enhancing interest in women’s practice of sports.
Rawda Al Sarkal, a player in the UAE national chess team, said that the tournament contributed to providing opportunities to highlight women’s creativity in the sports field, and encouraged them to practice sports in a stimulating environment, noting the continuous development and modernization in all competitions, which contributed to enhancing the importance of the tournament and its great status.
Many government institutions and departments have formed women’s sports teams that compete for titles in various tournaments, which has had a positive impact on the level of performance at work, whether individually or collectively.
The Dubai Sports Council also encouraged all institutions from the private sector to organize sporting events for women, which received wide participation from different nationalities and ages, in addition to providing the best opportunities for women to practice sports that are compatible with the customs and traditions of Emirati society, and to form partnerships and open strategic channels of communication with government and private institutions. And cooperation with Dubai sports clubs to support and develop women’s sports there.
